Echinacea paradoxa

  • Rare in its native range, this 3 foot tall perennial distinguishes itself to other coneflowers by boasting bright yellow petals that bloom earlier in the season.

  • Plant in full sun for optimal blooms, but can handle light shade. Water while establishing, once the plant is mature, it is exceptionally drought tolerant.

  • Behaves as a drought tolerant, hardy species that will self-seed freely around your dry prairie-style garden. It works well in a variety of settings, and pairs perfectly with other coneflowers, asters, and members of the Asteraceae family.

  • Native to the Ozark Plateau and parts of the south-central US, it can be found in hot, dry prairies and upland environments, though is rare in its range.

  • Fresh green leaves form out of basal rosettes in early spring with flower buds starting to form by mid to late spring. Distinctive yellow flower bloom in mid-summer and typically last through early fall. Seed heads form in fall and turn black often persisting through the winder, providing wonderful contrast to bronze-colored grasses.

  • A favorite to native bees and butterflies, Yellow coneflower provides an important nectar and pollen source while in bloom, as well as a seed source to Goldfinches and other seed lovers.
