Delphinium exaltatum
-
Tall Larkspur sends up elegant spires of deep blue flowers, three to six feet high, adding a regal touch to summer gardens.
-
Unlike its sun-loving cousins, Tall Larkspur thrives in dappled sun and moist soils. Once established, it is relatively low-maintenance, but does benefit from staking in windier sites as it is prone to flopping due to its tall, slender stems.
-
-
Native to prairies, fields, and roadsides across much of North America. It thrives in open, sunny spaces often in disturbed soils.
-
Spring brings feathery, fern like texture to the early spring garden with an explosion of golden red blooms from summer and fall. As the season ends, its dried seedheads stand and offers food for birds and begins the natural cycle of reseeding. We’ve found that it has evergreen basal foliage that lasts all winter long.
-
A favorite of bees, butterflies, pollinators, and birds it provides both abundant nectar and seed.
