Agastache foeniculum

  • A crowd pleasing perennial known for its aromatic foliage and spiky clusters of purple flowers often reaching heights of two to four feet.

  • Thrives in well-draining soils and full sun, but can tolerate partial shade. Once established, it is relatively drought tolerant.

  • A vigorous bloomer from summer to fall, its bushy habit makes it perfect for naturalistic plantings. It is very easy to grow and often self-seeds and spreads around easily. It often flowers its first season in the soil.

  • Found in meadows, grasslands, and often along roadsides and other disturbed sites across the Northern US from New York to Montana.

  • Flower spikes emerge in early summer with blooms typically lasting from June-September attracting pollinators to the garden all season long. After blooming, seedheads stand for much of fall into early winter and provide structure and shape to the dormant garden.

  • It is an excellent pollinator plant, attracting a variety of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its nectar filled flowers.
